Community engagement and collaboration play an important role in Nova Scotia’s work to advance recommendations from both the Desmond Fatality Inquiry and the Mass Casualty Commission. We work closely with local partners and residents to ensure the communities interested are represented – from planning and development to implementation and evaluation. The lived experience of families and community members – and their ongoing feedback – will continue to inform our actions and approach.
Nova Scotia partnered with Be The Peace Institute to co-design workshops with community and government to support development of a framework for inquiry-related engagements. Workshops held in May 2024 were attended by 45 individuals from community groups and 37 representatives from government (participant list included in the What We Heard Report). A small co-design team including government and community representatives developed resources to support meaningful community engagement on recommendations from both the Mass Casualty Commission’s final report and the final report of the Desmond Fatality Inquiry.
